On January 16, 2025, the world said goodbye to a remarkable man, Charles Franklin Hanes. Known affectionately as Chuck, Charlie, Daddy, Ol'Dad, Mr. Mule, and El Jefe, Charles was born on July 6, 1933, in Midlothian, Texas. His charismatic personality, warm heart, and wit made him an unforgettable character. Charles was a beacon of love and generosity, always ready with a funny joke to brighten your day. His life was a testament to his faith, and he was guided by his profound belief in God. Charles was a born-again Christian, and the verse from Proverbs 22:1, "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold," beautifully captures his essence.
Charles led a fulfilling life, filled with adventures and accomplishments. He served in the Navy in California before returning to his roots in Texas. His leadership skills shone as a Manager at Dairy Queen. Charles' love for sailing was infectious, and he often sailed in races to Mexico. His generosity extended beyond his family and friends, driving children to hospital visits at Shriners Hospital in Houston after his retirement. A proud Texan, Charles was a loyal fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. His hobbies included golf, and he collected more golf clubs than he could ever use. Charles' commitment to his community was evident through his membership in the Masonic Lodge.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of love and service. He is survived by his daughters Valorie and Sarah Hanes, son Tim Hanes and his wife Sheri, and his beloved grandson, Tucker. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gollie and Rebbeca Hanes, and his wife, June Hanes. Family, faith, and community service mattered most to Charles, and he lived his life in service of these values.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1in the afternoon at Midlothian Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 2. As we gather to remember and celebrate Charles' life, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos to the memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as a loving tribute to a man who touched so many lives in his unique and special way.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Charles' honor to
The Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or The Masons program of No Mason Left Behind thru the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in his memory.
