Charles Emery Hughes Sr., of Altamont, KS. Passed September 3, 2024, age 77 at home surrounded by family.
He was born in Neodesha, KS on May 23, 1947, to Samuel Thomas Hughes Sr. and Lula Isabel (McCormack) Hughes.
He was a United States Navy Veteran of 22 years 1964-1986. An honorable career serving in the Seabee Battalion. Retired as a E-6, Petty Officer 1st Class. He served all around the world. After retiring he loved trucking, gardening, and being with family. He was also passionate about singing and playing guitar.
Survived by his wife Ruby Joan (Culbertson) Hughes, married March 23, 1972, for 52 years. Two sons Glen James Hughes of Ingleside, Texas and son Charles Emery Hughes Jr. and wife Allie May Hughes of Norwood, MO. Two grandchildren Ashley Rosanna Hughes of Norwood, MO and Dalton James Hughes of Ingleside, TX and fiancé Kayla Elizabeth Leal. Three great grandchildren Nolan, Joanna, and Draycen and a fourth on the way. Brother Carl Wayne Hughes of Thayer. Beloved service dog of four years Minxy. Family friend James Smyth of Kentucky who served in the same Naval Ports. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by parents Samuel Hughes and Lula (McCormack) Hughes. Brothers Eugene, Homer, Samuel, and David Hughes. And one sister Patsy Hughes.
