Charles David Leeth, known by family as "Shunk" and the community of Piketon as "Chunk," passed away at 11:57 AM on Thursday, July 24 in Rhodes Hall at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.

He served the village of Piketon as a volunteer fireman, an employee of the village water department, and as a bus driver and janitor for Scioto Valley Schools. He was also a member of the Aladdin Shrine of Columbus and the Orient Masonic Lodge #321 in Waverly.

Shunk was born in Morgantown, Ohio on December 10, 1938, he lived all but a couple of his childhood years in Pike County when the family moved to Springfield, Ohio for a job opportunity for his father. He was born to Dennis Leeth and Harriet Smith both who have preceded him in death.

On August 08, 1971, he married Dixie Louise Walls. Together they worked to establish a home in Piketon while serving the Lord and the community of Piketon and were avid NASCAR fans during those 53+ years. They both came to faith in Jesus Christ later in life and attended Piketon Community Church with many close friends in the faith.

He had six sisters and four brothers. His sisters and brothers Geraldine (Leeth) Beekman, Flora Mae (Leeth) Hice, Betsy (Gallamore) Smith, Leslie Leeth, Adrian Leeth, Terry Gallamore, and Steve Gallamore preceded him in death. He is survived by Retha "Nini" (Leeth) May of Washington C.H., Sheila (Leeth) McGarvey of Chillicothe, and Kathy (Gallamore) Jordan of Chillicothe.

Shunk had two sons: Rev. Charles Gregory Leeth, wife Teresa of Waverly and David Brian Leeth & Linda Bryant of Piketon. He had three grandsons: Gregory Heith (Jamie) Leeth of Portsmouth, Charles Derek (Sharanna) Leeth of Waverly, Tyler Adam (Kelsey) Leeth of Laurelville, one granddaughter: Shyann Leeth of Kingston, and 14 great-grandchildren-Gavin, "Little" Derek, Bradyn, Adam, Baileigh, Alexis, Addison, Paxton, Ariana, Cynlee, Cash, Rowen, Jameson, and Anaya.

Prior to his death he often reminisced about his childhood and countless family and friends he had come to know throughout his life. Even in his last years, his memory was impeccable resulting in him being a walking phone book able to recall many of these friends and family members' numbers. He could recall the dates his bills were due and had his own personal system to take his daily medications correctly. He found this capacity to remember very beneficial as his battle with macular degeneration had caused him to be unable to see clearly for 15+ years.

His kindness and presence will be missed by family, friends, and community.

Friends and family will be received from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 3:00PM on Sunday, July 27 at the Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home located at 724 East Main Street, Piketon, with Pastor Alan Newberry and Rev. Dale Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery located at 776 Morgans Fork Road, Waverly.

Chunk was a great grandfather to my great niece Shyann and great grandfather to my great great nephew. I wish Jameson would have been able to know him more and take rides around Piketon. He always made you smile. You will be missed.
