A proud United States Army veteran, Charles wore his service with honor throughout his life. Following his military service, he dedicated 33 years as an electrician at the Defense Distribution Depot Susquehanna (DDSP) before retiring. He was an active member of VFW Post 556, where he remained a deeply engaged and respected presence, while also maintaining close ties with fellow veterans across other posts. His life was shaped by service, leadership, and strong community ties, including his membership as a Prince Hall Freemason. In recognition of his military service and leadership, Charles was inducted into the Court of Valor in September 2025 at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
A lifelong Washington Commanders fan and accomplished athlete, Charles played football and ran track at William Penn High School, and was later inducted into the William Penn Football Hall of Fame. He also gave back to the sports he loved by coaching, mentoring young athletes, and sharing the discipline, teamwork, and pride that athletics and martial arts had instilled in him. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling for deep-sea fishing adventures, always valuing the stories and camaraderie that came with time spent outdoors.
Charles loved music, dancing, and bringing people together. Holidays, especially Christmas, were sacred to him and were meant to be spent at home. He was known for hosting cookouts, pig roasts, and gatherings where music filled the air and everyone felt welcome.
His love for dogs ran deep, particularly his treasured boxer, Bulldozer, who was rarely far from his side.
Rooted in a quietly personal spirituality, Charles lived with hope, resilience, and a steady commitment to doing all he could, even in the hardest moments. He will be remembered for the love he gave, the relationships he built, and the warmth he brought into every space.
