Charles "Chuck" E. Nichols, Jr., 77, of Terre Haute passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at his home. He was born March 7, 1947, in Terre Haute to Charles E. Nichols, Sr. and Esther Romine Nichols. Chuck retired from the Terre Haute Fire Department after more than 20 years of service. He served as Chief Investigator and was a Captain. Chuck was also a Building Commissioner Inspector for the City of Terre Haute. He later worked at local funeral homes as an assistant. His years at Mattox-Wood and DeBaun Funeral Home were appreciated by the owners and staff as well as the families he served. Chuck enjoyed working at the funeral homes and continued to work up until his mid-70's.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 31 years, Era Nichols, sons Shawn Decker (Amanda) and Chad Decker, grandchildren Joshua Decker, Kaleigh Decker, and Logan Jones, brother Kevin Nichols (Cindy), nephew Tony Nichols (Cindi) and their children Indiann and Karissah; and niece Jackie Howald (Matt) and their daughter Mataline, as well as his beloved Schnauzer Charlie. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother William Nichols.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Service will begin at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Rick Swan will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.

So sorry to hear of Chuck passing. We grew up together and shared apartments at times when we were in our late teens and early twenties. Went to church together for many years. I new his parents and grandparents very well.
