Charles E. "Chuck" Nurnberger, age 72, a longtime resident of Winchester, recently residing in Naples, Maine, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Marianne P. (Roscillo) Nurnberger for 52 years.
The son of the late Erwin and Evelyn (Carroll) Nurnberger, Chuck was raised and educated in Winchester and was a graduate of Winchester High School with the class of 1971. He owned and operated New England Greenhouse Construction for many years and spent the later years of his career as a life insurance agent with the Knights of Columbus.
In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed spending summers with his family on Long Lake in Naples, Maine. He loved the outdoors and could always be found boating in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter with close friends from the Birch Point Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed golf and loved to play cribbage. He and Marianne spent part of the colder months in Orlando, FL, where they ventured to Disney World many times with their daughters and granddaughter. An excellent chef and baker, the highest form of praise was when his family would vote that one of his dishes was "on the menu."
In Winchester, Chuck dedicated many years supporting the community he loved. He was a member of several boards, including 25 years as an elected member of Winchester Town Meeting. He served on the Planning Board, Finance Committee and the Select Board, serving as Chairman in 2003. He was instrumental in the conception and fundraising for Bellino Park in Winchester. He was a fixture at Winchester Town Day and enjoyed making and handing out popcorn and volunteering wherever he was needed.
A 4th Degree Knight and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Chuck was one of the founding members of the St. John Vianney Knights of Columbus Council #16243 at St. Mary's/St. Eulalia's Church. As an active parishioner at St. Mary's, he called bingo for many years with a group of friends.
In addition to his wife Marianne, Chuck is lovingly survived by his daughters: Christine Nurnberger Campbell and her husband Rob of Naples, Maine, Ann-Marie Gautie and her husband Adam of Winchester, and was the dear grandfather of Rosemond Gautie. He is further survived by his sisters, Suzanne Barker and Carole Cann and her husband Barry, all of AZ. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for Visiting Hours at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Monday, March 24 from 4-7PM and again on Tuesday, March 25 at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chuck's memory may be made to the Knights of Columbus, St. John Vianney Council #16243 (please write "Nurnberger Scholarship" in the memo), P.O. Box 782, Winchester, MA 01890.
