Charles Otho "Honey Bee" "C.O." Smith, 90, of Boonsboro, MD, passed away, Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Born Sunday, February 17, 1935, in Mt. Lena, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Woodrow Smith and Edna Elizabeth (Souders) Tracey. He was raised by his grandparents, Annie and Meade Smith, since he was 8 years old.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of the American Legion Post 10, and the Virginia Avenue Church of God.
He retired from Mack Truck from over 25 years of employment and had a passion for beekeeping, that he learned from his grandfather who gave him his first hive at the age of 8. Not only being a beekeeper, he was the Maryland State Bee Inspector and a member of the Maryland State Beekeeper Association. He was a proud Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his loving wife, Viola Smith, daughter, Faith Ann (Skip) Etheridge, son, Timothy Charles (Jeanne) Smith, son, Fred D. (Jo Anne) Smith, daughter, Jeri Lyn (Brian) Roberts; grandchildren, Casey, Kara, Caitlin, Zach, Blake, and Daniel; great grandchildren, Aiden, Aubrey, Marleigh, Judah, Hudson, Charlotte, Hailey, Emma, Sophia, Ezekiel, and one great grandchild on the way; sisters, Mary Jane Grayhouser, Hazel Bryan, and Irene Lear, brother, James Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy Smith.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 11:00 am, at the Virginia Avenue Church of God, 17306 Virginia Avenue Hagerstown, MD, with the Pastors, Shawn Bushman and Tim Fisher officiating.
Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd N., Hagerstown, MD 21742, on Monday, September 8, 2025, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Avenue Church of God or to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
