STALIONS, Charles Ray – of Flint, Michigan, age 84, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025. Cremation has taken place.
Charles was born in Pontiac, Michigan on December 30, 1940, son of the late Harold and Vivian (McDowell) Stalions. Charles, or "Sonny" to his friends growing up, loved to reminisce about his childhood – always telling stories of his youth on North Jessie Street in Pontiac, Michigan. Whether his stories were about playing marbles, watching old Westerns or hanging out with Bob Murphy, Charles always looked fondly on his past. Charles graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1958 and then pursued his passion for education by attending Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois. There he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and later went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Charles dedicated over 40 years of his life to the Flint Kearsley Community Schools, where he served as both a teacher and a counselor. Known for his witty sense of humor, wisdom, and unwavering support for his students, Charles was a steady and compassionate presence in the lives of countless young people. His contributions to education and the community have left a lasting impact that will be remembered for generations. Outside of the classroom, Charles was an avid outdoorsman who loved running, fishing, and hunting and could usually be found out on the golf course. Charles loved to spontaneously take trips Out West or to Alaska. He was a sports fan who always had either golf or the Detroit Lions on the television.
On June 9, 1962, Charles married the love of his life, Rosemarie Phillips, in Flint, Michigan, whom he met in college. Their 63 years of marriage was a beautiful testament to love, faith, and partnership. Together, they built a long, blessed life together – having raised three children and enjoying their five grandchildren. Charles always cherished the time he spent with his family.
But above all, Charles was a strong Christian and knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and always looked forward to the day he would see Him face to face.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie Stalions; 3 children, Drake (Karolyn) Stalions, Brock (Kelly) Stalions and Brooke (Lance) Lyles; 5 grandchildren, Connor Stalions, Meredith Stalions, Grace Stalions, Garrett Stalions and Colt Lyles; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vivian Stalions and his sister, Sharon (Kenneth) Roth.
Charles' family would like to thank The Pines of Burton Assisted Living for their wonderful care and dedication to their residents. A small family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
