I had the honor of sitting on a rabbinic search committee or two with Chuck. I remember him being empathetic and occasionally emphatic...and enjoyed serving alongside him. May his memory always be for a blessing.

Dear Judy,
I will always remember Chuck for his humility and kindness. He radiated warmth and goodness. One of my favorite memories with you two was at the Congress when Ed was chairman. The four of us were walking back to our hotel rooms late one night- I think you and I had taken our shoes off. Chuck expressed his desire for a bowl of cereal- for some everyday food after a week of hotel dinners. Our children and grandchildren were with us in the suite and we had plenty of cereal for him to choose from. I remember him sitting at the bar eating a bowl of Cheerios and the good conversation that followed. Your deep love for each other always so apparent- all my memories are of you two together enjoying life!

Chuck was one of the kindest and most professional men I have had the privilege of knowing. It was an honor calling him my friend. He was someone that you could always rely upon in both good and difficult times. He was always the champion for equity, quality of care, and sharing his wisdom when most needed.
Chuck will be remembered by more than can be counted but mostly because of the beauty in his relationship with his sweetheart Judy and their children. God bless you Chuck and continue pushing for the best in Heaven.

Though we didn't stay connected as adults, Chuck and I were close in high school and early college years. Our trip to Canada and road trip to New Orleans were still talked about years after we suffered the consequences of that craziness. He will be missed.

Chuck always had a smile on his face and almost without exception it was because he was in the company of Judy. Our hearts are broken by the loss of Chuck and are more open than ever for Judy. Those who know Chuck and Judy can´t really mention one without the other nor do we think we ever will. All our love to a truly extraordinary family of brilliant and wonderful people.

Dear Stokes family;
Although we only got to know each other in the last couple of years, in my brief time that I knew Chuck, it was very clear to me that he was an extraordinary humble, helpful and inspirational person . We were tied by a project in Dothan through UAB and we had a number of meaningful meetings ,exchanged emails and telephone calls .
That all to say that I learned so much about Chuck and increasingly developed a greater awareness and appreciation for his wonderful generous, kind spirit, easy-going manner, sage advice, and brilliant suggestions, not to mention his sonorous, calming voice.
Judy, although we have not met, Chuck often referred to you and your plans to consider spending more time in the Netherlands and we had hoped to help host you and find you a spot that the two of you would appreciate.
Now I have memories and wisdom he left behind for me that I will always treasure.
I wish you and the entire family peace and the realization that Chuck was a special person to many, including me.
Wishing you all the very best.
