Charles V. Sullivan

Charles V. Sullivan, 54, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 15, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Plattsburg, NY, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and was a 1989 graduate of Stoughton High School. He then furthered his education at Boston University and graduated in 1993 with a degree in broadcasting and film. He has been a resident of Raynham for 24 years. Professionally known as “Chuck Sullivan”, he worked in College Athletics for his entire career and was currently working as the Assistant Commissioner for Communication for the American Conference since 2015. Prior to that he worked for the Big East Conference, Bryant College, UMass Boston and began his career at Princeton University in the Athletic Communications Department. He was also a member of the Football Writers of America Association.

Known to family and friends as “Charlie”, he was the devoted husband of 26 years of Renee’ L. (Dray) Sullivan and was the loving father of Orry N. Dray-Sullivan and Owen C. Sullivan, all of Raynham. He is survived by his parents, Linda M. (Siska) Sullivan and Arthur V. Sullivan (Dedham PD Ret.) of Venice, FL, formerly of Stoughton, and his brother Jeff Sullivan and his wife Casey of Weymouth. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Richard and Jeanne Dray of Stoughton and was the brother-in-law of Richard and Sherry Dray and Robin and Thomas Wahl all of Raynham, Ryan and Christine Dray of Bridgewater and Rhonda and Roddy Finlayson of Rhode Island. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and had a special place in his heart for his great niece Payton.

Charlie was a devoted friend and valued his friendships, especially the ones with his “Crew” from the West School in Stoughton. He loved the Patriots, Marvel movies, Star Wars and was a gifted writer. He enjoyed golfing and music and considered himself to be a talented Fantasy Football Player. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, chasing trains across the West with Owen and family vacations to Disney World.

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, November 20 from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, 675 North Main St., Raynham on Friday, November 21 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Pleasant Street Cemetery, Raynham. American Conference Mourns the Loss of Longtime Communications Professional Chuck Sullivan

IRVING, Texas – The American Conference mourns the heart-breaking loss of assistant commissioner of communications Chuck Sullivan, who passed away Saturday evening after a long battle with melanoma. Sullivan was 54 years old.

One of the most well-respected communications professionals in collegiate athletics, Sullivan first joined the conference staff in August of 2007 as the Big East Conference’s director of communications. After the American’s reconstitution in 2013, he was promoted to assistant commissioner for communications in January of 2015 and has overseen the communications and external operations for the American and its 20 Division I sports. In addition to supporting the promotion of the American’s student-athletes and sports, Sullivan supervised and mentored dozens of communications and external relations professionals over his time with the conference office and previously at the institution level.

Commissioner Tim Pernetti noted, “We are heartbroken at the loss of our friend and colleague Chuck Sullivan. For 25 years, Chuck has been a deeply respected leader in collegiate athletics, and a remarkable husband and father. Chuck’s positive impact on the industry, the American Conference, student-athletes, coaches, and members of the media will always remain in our hearts. He will be truly missed and forever part of the American Conference family.”

A native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Sullivan served on the media coordination staff for a multitude of College Football Playoff National Championship games, the NCAA Final Four and the BCS National Championship.

Before coming to the American, Sullivan spent time at all levels of the NCAA, including spells at Harvard from 2003-07, Bryant from 1999-2003, UMass Boston from 1995-99 and Princeton from 1993-95.

Sullivan’s award-winning career included numerous honors, including a Best In The Nation Award, three Best Cover Awards, three Second In The Nation Awards and three Third In The Nation Awards. He was an ex-officio member of the board of directors of the Football Writers Association of America, has served on the Academic All-America Committee of the College Sports Information Directors of America and has been a regular presenter and panelist at regional and national conventions.

Sullivan is survived by his wife, Renee, and sons, Orry and Owen.
