Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday August 21, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Charles Alex Walling was born October 18, 1952 to James M. and Dorothy (Parker) Walling in
Jacksonville, Florida. Since his father was a Marine, the family lived in several states, the Carolinas, Tennessee, California, and Florida to name a few. After his fathers retirement, they settled in
Mooreland, Oklahoma. Chuck attended junior high and high school there and went on to graduate with the class of 1972. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for one year and went on to continue his education at broadcasting school in Weatherford. While attending college he started working as a radio disc jockey which continued for many years including Q102 in Woodward as "Charlie Brown."
In 1978, he met the love of his life, Debra Cochran while managing Long John Silvers in Woodward. They were united in marriage on June 3, 1980 in Boiling Springs State Park. To this union a little girl named Kea Dawn became a part of his life, his "baby girl" who he later adopted. In 1981 Chuck and Debbie were blessed with son Zachary Aaron and later another son, Jacob Ethan in 1985.
For a period of time, he worked with his father-in-law doing construction, also for the City of Mooreland, and then finally in 1993 he found his calling, literally at Pioneer Cellular as a Phone Technician, where he retired in 2020 after 27 years.
During his life, his favorite things included being a Boy Scout Master with his sons, brother, nephew and father, and especially trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He also wrote poetry, music and played the guitar and sang which included recording his own CD. He also loved being a movie and music buff. Spoiling his children and grandchildren was something that made him smile. His family, and his newest great grandson Cody was his pride and joy, and he loved every minute with them.
Chuck is survived by wife Debbie of the home in Mooreland; daughter Kea and husband Chris of Woodward; son Zachary and wife Angela of Stillwater; brother James A. Walling and wife Linda of Mooreland; grandchildren, Pamela Hager of Woodward, Catheryne Martin of Stillwater, Amber and Cameron Conrady of Woodward; niece Lisa Sanders and husband Todd of Woodward; great nieces, Jessica, Brittany, and Taylor of Oklahoma City; great-grandsons Cody and Kace Lewis; other relatives and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Dorothy Walling, son, Jacob Walling, nephew Jamie Walling, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hershel and Rosalie Cochran.
Being loved by him was a love we have never known.
