Charles "Charlie" Bryant Lively, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Born on April 1, 1951, in Long Beach, California, he was the cherished son of Samuel Bryant Lively and Evelyn (Estep) Lively. Charlie married the love of his life, Cathy Elaine (Baber) Lively, and they shared 37 years together as a couple.
Charlie was a highly creative and talented individual who devoted his life to the art of tattooing. In 1991, he opened the first tattoo shop in Fort Smith, Arkansas, making it the third tattoo establishment in the state at the time. His passion for tattoo artistry, especially black and grey work, was evident throughout his career. When he wasn't working, he could often be found drawing or relaxing in his mancave, enjoying a good TV show. Known for his unique sense of humor, Charlie had a reputation as a character who loved to joke in his own special way. While he may have appeared tough on the outside, his heart was soft, particularly when it came to animals. Over the years, Charlie rescued countless stray cats, dogs, a bird, and even a raccoon, offering them a loving home. His deep affection for animals was a defining part of who he was. Above all, Charlie will be remembered as a man who spoke his mind, as well as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy will live on through the love and laughter he shared with his family and friends.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Cathy Elaine Lively; one step son, Adam Selby and wife Brooke; three grandchildren, Cristina Lively and husband Jessie; Killian Lively; and Hayden Lively; three step grandchildren, Demi Baron and husband Jason; Adalyn Selby; and Madison Selby; two step-great grandchildren, Kollins and Devon; two brothers, Tiny Lively and Sam Lively; two sisters, Kathy Padilla; and Pam Thrillkill; along with nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Evelyn Lively; and his son, Charles "little Charlie" Roy Lively.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Pastor Mike Dugan is to officiate. Services are entrusted to River Glenn Funeral Services.
