Charlotte Mary Buchheit passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Frederick Shaker and Rose Anna Allam on December 16, 1940, and was a true Michigander at heart.
Charlotte married Charles J. "Chuck" Buchheit in 1963. They shared a deep love that endured beyond his passing in 1982. She was known for her kindness, grace, and unwavering love for her family. She faced life's challenges with resilience and humor and found strength in her profound Catholic faith.
Charlotte held various part-time jobs, but her most fulfilling career was her role as a mother, raising five teenage girls on her own. She held deep pride in the fact that all five of her girls graduated from Indiana University in four years, a testament to her guidance and support. Later in life, she cherished the title of "Sittee" as a loving grandmother.
Charlotte generously gave of her time volunteering at church and in hospitals as well as being an ear to listen or shoulder to lean on for anyone in need. She also loved to travel. Las Vegas and the beach were her favorites, but her wanderlust took her far and wide.
Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Monica (Alan) Carl, Debra (Ray) Youngfelt, Mary Anne Buchheit, Karen (Gary) Meyers, and Carolyn (John) Menzies. She is also survived by five grandkids, Alexandria and Samanatha Youngfelt, and Cameron, Anna, and Evan Menzies; siblings, Anthony (Marcella) Allam, and Phyllis Clements; many cousins; nieces; nephews; in-laws; and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Michael Allam and Sister Joyce Alam; sister-in-law, Nina Allam; and brother-in-law, Patrick Clements.
Her life will be celebrated with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46217 with a lunch reception immediately following. She will be buried next to Chuck at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana.
Those wishing to honor her remembrance can do so with a donation in her name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, to support Parkinson's Disease Research, P. O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or online at [email protected].
