Charlotte (Char) J. Koczan, 75, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away on Friday,
November 7, 2025, at Memorial Hospital, after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. Charlotte was born in South Bend on February 13, 1950, to the late Alfred and Mary (Tamandli) Koczan.
Char loved the south side of South Bend. Char was a graduate of Jackson High School, and she called the south side home for her entire life. She will be fondly remembered for her love of walking her neighborhood, lunches with her closest friends, quilting, Hallmark Channel movies, and finishing jigsaw puzzles. She was also an incredible advocate for her grandson Dominic, often spending many hours researching IEPs and making sure Dom was getting the best education possible.
She is survived by her son, Edward (Melissa) Koczan, and two loving grandchildren: Dominic Koczan and Benjamin Koczan; a sister, Jaqueline Butler of South Bend, and a brother Michael (Gail) Koczan, of Lakeville. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of life will be held from 4pm-6pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the
Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. She will be interred at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
