Charlotte O'Connell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Modetz Funeral Home - Silverbell Chapel on Dec. 13, 2025.
Charlotte, whose smile lit up every room she entered, grew up in Chicago as the eldest of nine children. While working part-time as a student, she met Kevin O'Connell. They fell in love and married shortly before Kevin graduated.
After the birth of their first son, Michael, Charlotte chose to leave the workforce to become a full-time mother. Their second son, Timothy, soon followed, and she devoted herself completely to raising her boys. As they grew older, she returned to work part-time and later made the decision to pursue a college education. She began with night classes, eventually becoming a full-time student and earing her marketing degree with honors.
Charlotte reentered the workforce selling papers and then cell phones for a small business that later became part of Ameritech. Se was quickly promoted to sales manager.
Feeling called to serve those in need, Charlotte became involved with Habitat for Humanity, an organization devoted to providing housing for families facing hardship. She and Kevin volunteered for two decades, building and rehabilitating homes in Chicago's western suburbs. She later joined the organization's board and, as president, guided significant improvements that helped the affiliate thrive.
As time went on, both sons married – Michael to Susan and Timothy to Megan – and Charlotte delighted in the arrival of her three grandchildren: Elle, Miles, and Liv. She cherished every moment spent with them. When Timothy and his family moved to Michigan, Charlotte and Kevin followed, eager to remain close. Some of her happiest times were spent playing games, enjoying sports, and exploring each child's interests. A particularly meaning period came during Covid, when she and Kevin helped teach the children while schools were closed.
After moving to Michigan, Charlotte began volunteering with Rochester Neighborhood House, continuing with her lifelong commitment to helping families in need.
When Kevin retired, they began spending winters in Florida to escape the cold. There, Charlotte became an enthusiastic golfer and tennis player, relishing time with friends both on and off the course. She also spent many years as an avid runner, earning numerous medals from local races.
Charlotte loved traveling and embraced new experiences across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. She and Kevin especially enjoyed the comfort and adventure of cruises, which allowed them to met new people and explore new places without the hassle of constant packing.
Charlotte was a loving, compassionate woman who found joy in supporting others. She helped quietly and without seeking recognitions, always putting others first. She touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations are for support to Rochester Neighborhood House.
