Chase Adam Montgomery, 39, of San Jose passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. He was born on November 10, 1985 in Pekin to Donald Montgomery and Angel Goodwin. After many years of dating he married Gina Tibbs on July 5, 2023 in Clearwater, Florida.
Chase is survived by his wife Gina Montgomery, 6 children: Carter Montgomery, Maddison Abner, Kaden Tibbs, Hailee Abner, Peyton Abner and Marlie Abner, 2 grandchildren: Liam and Kinsley Lane, his parents Don and Angel, 2 siblings: Brooke (Phil) McIntire, Brynt (Casey Schaffer) Montgomery and 5 nieces and nephews: Deagan, Rorey, Bailey, Sophia and Blayke. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
Chase was a 2004 graduate of Ilini Central High School and went on to work as a machine operator for Sun Ag in Emden. He was a member of the San Jose United Methodist Church.
Chase loved his family beyond measure. He never missed an opportunity to make someone smile-whether it was with a joke, a story, or one of his legendary late-night snacks. (If you know, you know; sautéed shrimp and a half-gallon of milk at midnight.) "It's a beverage, not an ingredient," he'd say with a grin.
He found joy in the simple things: dancing in the kitchen with his wife, decorating for Christmas with the most exotic, over-the-top lights and decorations on the block, or bringing home new toys for the grandkids-just because.
Chase had a passion for gardening, car shows, and collecting-especially RC cars, model cars, Hot Wheels, and toy tractors. He spent countless hours in his garage tinkering, fixing, and crafting. Teaching his kids how to work with their hands and the value of hard work was one of his greatest joys. He was proud of his career, especially his work in agriculture and his beloved 4440 Patriot sprayer.
He loved his animals, his faithful Hadley, Margo, Millie and even his arch-nemesis, Luther.
He found peace in nature on camping trips, kayaking adventures, ranger rides, and sunset cruises with family. Though he was scared of heights, he preferred the mountains to the ocean-just don't ask him to stand too close to the edge.
Chase loved burnouts, drag strip days, and anything with a loud engine, especially his Chevy trucks. He was the first call his kids made when they were in a bind-whether it was car trouble or even when they were running from the cops. No matter the hour, rain, or snow, he always showed up without question.
He didn't know a stranger. Chase made everyone feel like somebody. He listened without judgment, loved without condition, and lived with a heart full of generosity.
He was a great man. A husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend-and a light that will never dim in the lives of those who loved him.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 10:00 Am at the San Jose United Methodist Church with Steve Bagby officiating, burial to follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 also at the church from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Online condolences can be left at www.hurleyfh.com. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of the arrangements.
