Chester Glen Smith Sr.

Chester Glen Smith, Sr. passed from this life on Friday, December 5, 2025 in Rensselaer, IN at the age of 91. He was born on August 20, 1934 in Newton County, IN to the late Chester H. and Minnie Mary Smith. He was lovingly raised by his mother, Minnie, and step father, William M. Dowty, Sr. Glen graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1953 and served in the US Army until 1962. He was a longtime member and former Governor of the Rensselaer Moose Lodge #2272. On July 28, 1967, Glen married Marie R. (Tiede) Whitaker in Rensselaer. She passed away on February 24, 2013.
In his younger years, Glen drove a stock car and was well-known at the Jasper County Fairgrounds. He was an avid NASCAR and NHRA fan. He enjoyed salt water and fresh water fishing as well as bowling in a league. Glen also enjoyed watching women's college basketball and softball. He was incredibly friendly and never knew a stranger. Glen loved his family dearly and will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1 PM EST Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Frain Mortuary in Francesville, IN.
Services will be held at 1 PM EST Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Frain Mortuary in Francesville, IN with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating.
Burial will take place at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville, IN. The American Legion will conduct Military Graveside Services.
