We are saddened to announce the passing of Christopher Donald Bowles, of Murphy, North Carolina. Chris passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2025, at the age of 90.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean (Taffee) Bowles; his sisters Betty Joan Marshall (deceased), Sheryl (David) Kozlouski, Merry (James) Okonoski, brother K.T. (Deborah) Bowles; his "adopted" family: Robert B. (Laurie) Caldwell, Raymond (Kathy) Caldwell, Diane (Christopher) Ocksrider, and Catherine (Boyce) Berry; many special nieces, nephews and close friends.
Chris was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and is the son of Thomas and Helena Betty (Vaillanecourt) Bowles.
Chris proudly served his county for three years in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958; serving in the Korean War. Chris spent his working career as owner and vice president of Bowles and Foster, Inc.
Chris' passion for life included his love of flying, earning his private pilot license, traveling the country in retirement with his wife and faithful canine companion, Jake, in their 38 foot 5th wheel RV from 1995-2002, and settling down in the hills of Murphy, NC. Chris had many special dogs over the years; Nick, Sam, Bear, Jake, Brandy, Hap, Sadie, Lucy, and Sarah (surviving).
Chris took great pride in a good day's work and enjoyed various "post-retirement" jobs in Murphy until near the end of his life. He forged many special friendships throughout his lifetime, and was especially fond of his co-workers at the Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino.
His family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of North Carolina. Memorial contributions may be made in Chris' name to the Valley River Humane Society, 7450 US-19 Marble, NC 28905 or (828) 837-2304
