Christopher Amar, aged 69, passed away on December 22, 2023 in Utica, NY. He was born in NY and was the oldest son of Henry and Irene (Maslik) Amar. Chris grew up in Tallman, NY and attended Suffern High School. He was with his wife and love of his life and lifetime partner, Harriet for 46 years.
Christopher was a free spirit, an avid reader, an artisan, a great naturalist, and a trailblazer in the field of organic farming. His family often referred to him as, "a jack of all trades and a master of many". He passed his love of nature, healthy living, art, reading, and learning on to his family and many friends around him. Chris loved people and would help others whenever and wherever he could. He built homes with Habitat for Humanity and would help anyone who was in need or had a building or welding project that needed doing. Chris was also known for his talent in the field of ceramics, making beautiful pottery and inspiring others through his demonstrations at art exhibitions in the surrounding area. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the beauty of this art. His love of all different kinds of art from painting and woodworking to pottery reflected how he saw beauty in not only nature but in the human spirit. It was this love for nature, art, people, and healthy living that led him and Harriet to buy land where they planned for decades to build a homestead and bring people together in community to do the same. Chris loved his "Woods" and was working to fulfill their life-long dream when he passed.
Christopher is predeceased by his wife, Harriet. Surviving are siblings, Judy Amar, Peter Amar, and Steven (Kathi) Amar; and his wife's children, Michael (Mary) Potash, Meryl (Murray) Goldwag, Wayne (Sherrill) Potash, and Dodie (Mark) Antal; as well as Chris and Harriet's grandchildren, Noah Benner-Potash and Jordan Potash, Melissa Fachler, Ari Goldwag, Shoshana Weiner, Elana Jacobs, Kayla Shanni, and Jaden Antal; along with his nieces, Kristie Acoveno, Kimberly Bradley and Kathryn Amar; and chosen family members.
Chris was cremated. There will be a memorial service for him this summer to be announced at a later date.
Donations in the memory of Chrisopher Amar may be made to: Habitat for Humanity, the National Kidney Foundation, a local nature conservancy or non-profit of choice.
Arrangements are with the Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford, NY.

As I contemplate moving back to Chenango County, I have been looking for people that I knew 20+ years ago. Chris and Harriet were two of those people. I am just devastated to learn of Chris's death. He was one of our buddies, an environmentalist and fellow member of the Three Rivers Project.
I am so sorry that he's gone.
