Chuck Bailey, age 89, longtime resident of Shelby Township, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at his temporary home surrounded by his loving family.
Chuck was born April 19, 1933, at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After the family moved a couple of times, they ended up in Wyandotte, Michigan where he graduated high school in 1951. After high school and a short run at the University of Michigan, in 1952 he joined the Marine Corps as an enlisted radio operator and served in Korea. He was later selected for flight school and earned his Naval Aviator "Wings of Gold" in 1955. He was stationed in Japan where he ended up meeting his future wife, Bunny. During this time, he attained the rank of Captain, logged well over 1000 hours of flight time, and made many carrier landings. After leaving active military in 1958 and getting married the same year, he then attended Michigan State University, graduating at the top his class with studies in residential construction. Chuck and Bunny gave birth to their first of seven children in 1960. They finally settled into their long-term home on Country Club Drive in 1965 where they raised their family and stayed essentially for the remainder of their lives.
Chuck was always up for a good time. He was usually the life of a party and the last one to leave, much to the chagrin of Bunny. He was an Eagle Scout, a world traveler, enjoyed cooking, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Chuck is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Rose Mary "Bunny" Bailey. Brother of the late Jane Bailey. Loving father of Kevin Bailey, Dan (Linda) Bailey, Pat (Denise) Bailey, Mike (Kevin Olah) Bailey, Chris (Jennifer) Bailey, Anne Baker (Randy) and Keith Bailey. Proud grandfather of Caitlin Bailey, Karl Marberger, Chas Bailey, Eric Marberger, Hannah Bailey, Connor Bailey, Katrina Marberger, Maggie Bailey, Grace Bailey, Laine Bailey, and Elena Bailey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
