CLARENCE ROBERT GREEN In Loving Memory of Clarence Green July 22, 1929 – April 10, 2025
At the remarkable age of 95, Clarence Green of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his daughters' home on April 10, 2025, with love all around him. Born in Columbus on July 22, 1929, Clarence was the tenth of twelve children-and the last surviving child of Frank and Edna Green.
Clarence lived a life as vibrant and unforgettable as his signature suits from Schottensteins. He married Barbara Green in 1949, and together they raised three beautiful daughters-Jennifer, Joyce, and Janet. A devoted and sometimes overprotective father, Clarence was known to say to a visiting young man, "Brother man, it's time for you to go home." In 1985, Clarence married Veronica Henderson Green. He was her devoted partner until her passing in 2024. He also lovingly stepped into the role of stepfather to Holly Henderson.
Clarence attended East High School before joining the U.S. Army, where he served his country with honor until December 18, 1948. After his service, he worked at the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC) until retirement, then continued to stay active working for Yerke Mortgage Company. Clarence enjoyed walking through downtown Columbus delivering documents-and spreading good conversation along the way. His favorite stop? Visiting his daughter Janet at the Supreme Court of Ohio. He'd proudly tell the security officers, "I'm here to see my baby girl."
Clarence was a man who loved deeply and laughed often. He was a fantastic dancer-so much so that as a teenager, he performed for inmates at the old Ohio State Penitentiary. Whether he was dancing, walking the neighborhood, shopping for the perfect pair of shoes, or enjoying jazz and R&B, Clarence moved through life with rhythm and joy. Family was the center of Clarence's universe. He cherished family gatherings and never missed a chance to celebrate those he loved. He was the storyteller, the wisdom-sharer, the always-stylish elder statesman of the Green family. And oh, how he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren-always proud, always present.
Clarence is survived by his beloved daughters: Jennifer St. Clair, Joyce Stewart-Bibins, Janet Green Marbley, and Holly Henderson; five grandchildren: Edward Stewart, Algenon L. Marbley Jr. (Crista), Chardae Stewart, Aaron L. Marbley (Maggie), and Adam Bibins; six great-grandchildren: Carinn, Carmen, and Camille Marbley; Jaylen and Jazmyn Givens; and Alexander Marbley; two great-great-grandchildren – Legaci and Liam Givens, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A memorial service celebrating Clarence's extraordinary life will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Road, Columbus. Following the service, a repast will be held, featuring Clarence's favorite bites-coneys and White Castle sliders, because if you knew Clarence, you knew he never turned down a good snack. Clarence Green was one of a kind-full of heart, humor, and history. He walked through this world with style and soul, leaving it brighter than he found it.
Clarence's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the phenomenal team at Care360 Hospice, including Victoria, Samantha, and Seth for their extraordinary care, compassion, and kindness during his final months. Their support brought comfort, dignity, and peace to Clarence and those who loved him most.
