Clarence Richard "Rick" Monday
January 13, 1949 – November 4, 2025
Clarence Richard "Rick" Monday, age 76, of
Monroe, Michigan, passed over on November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He left this world in the care of God's hands and the love of those who cherished him most.
Rick was born on January 13, 1949, in Speedwell, Tennessee, to Boyd and Luda (Turner) Monday. He moved to Michigan from Tennessee in search of stable employment like many others during that time. He met and married Brenda Sue Rains, and together they had three children before later divorcing in 1999. In 2002, he married Diana, who remained his devoted wife and companion for the rest of his life.
Rick worked in several factories in the Monroe area during a time when many were closing their doors. His determination and work ethic led him to start a side business in landscaping, which eventually grew into CR Monday Landscaping. He took immense pride in his home, his work, and his beautiful yard. Rick was a proud union member and a strong supporter of the working man, always standing up for fairness and the dignity of hard, honest labor. Those who knew him best will remember his perfectionism, his unending humor, and the deep love he held for his family. Rick fully retired in 2013, though he never stopped gardening or finding something that needed improvement.
He loved to argue politics, watch the stock market, and spend time outdoors - especially hunting and fishing, which were two of his greatest passions. Whether casting a line in quiet waters or walking the woods at dawn, Rick found peace and purpose in nature. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and never lost his curiosity about the world around him.
Rick and Diana shared a deep love for animals. Together they rescued Rottweilers and had several throughout their years together: Dale, Rowdy, BabyDoll, Miranda, Scarlet, Liberty (Libby), Basil, Maggie, and Gracie (all deceased), as well as Jake, Khaleesi, and their finicky Chihuahua, Charley.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; his children Michael (Ronda) Monday, Lenora Evoe (Lonnie, deceased), Alicia Monday, Joshua (Crista) Lay of Huntington Woods, and Victor Murphy of Monroe; his grandchildren Michael (Courtney) Monday (children Hudson and Brynlee), Brendan Monday, Katelyn Evoe, Austin Evoe, Mia Monday, Avery Monday, and Julian Murphy; and his siblings J.B. (Sarah) Monday, Alvie (Joyce) Monday, Shirley (D.T.) Berry, Treacy (Kenneth) Smith, Casper (Shirley) Monday, and Terry (Melissa) Monday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Luda Monday; and siblings Roseleigh Monday, Iuadene (Orville) Mallory, Boyd Jr. Monday, Irene (Bill Leach), Leo Monday, and Chester Monday.
Rick will be remembered for his wit, his warmth, and his steady, loving presence. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and found joy in simple things - a perfectly cut lawn, a quiet evening at home, or time spent with family.
He believed in hard work, honesty, and doing things his own way - and he did just that. His family takes comfort knowing he is now at peace and reunited with those who went before him. We will carry his laughter, his lessons, and his love with us always.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until the time of service starting at 6:00 pm. Officiating is Rev. Harold Raines. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow services.
