Claude E. Lance

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Claude Lance, a native of Sweetwater, who was called home on December 18, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born on March 2, 1943, to Charles and Zelma Lance. He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School with the Class of 1961and of Agriculture College through the University of Tennessee. Claude served with the Army National Guard, served as Sweetwater City Commissioner and as the Sweetwater Police Commissioner. He also served on the Sweetwater City School board and was an active member of the Monroe County Republican Party. His passion was his dairy farm and his animals. He served as Director of several dairy boards and won many National awards with his animals in dairy judging. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Sweetwater.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Harris Lance; son, Dr. Scott Lance and wife Sarah Lance of Ashland, KY; daughter, Heather Lance Ogles and husband James "Zeb" Ogles of Sweetwater; grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Ogles, William (Brooke) Ogles and Catherine Ogles. He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter, Ruthie Ogles.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated and will be laid to rest at a later date.
