Claude J. Parr, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Johnstown, NY, on August 30, 2025.
Born on August 13, 1946, in Northville, NY, he was the son of the late Walter and Gladys (Knowlton) Judson.
Skip graduated Bible college in the early 80's which was a one-year school called world of life bible institute in Schroon Lake, NY. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Johnstown where he enjoyed the men's groups and speaking on Wednesday evening services. After Skip and his wife Ginny came to know Christ in 1977 at Perth Bible Church, they became heavily involved in the Bus ministry that influenced many families in Fonda and Fultonville and Johnstown. This led him to study at Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, NY where he graduated in the early 1980s. In his later years, he was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Johnstown, NY
Known for his skillful career in automotive sales, he spent many years as a car salesman at various dealerships, where he not only made a living but also made lifelong friends. He enjoyed people and was always willing to engage others in conversations. Skip's work was only one aspect of his life, though. His true passion lay in the care and restoration of classic tractors, particularly those crafted by John Deere. His pride and joy were a 1946 Model H that he restored to its original glory, a project that reflected his love for history, mechanics, and hands-on labor. He also enjoyed carpentry, gardening, and anything related to farm life.
Above all, he was most proud of his four biological grandchildren. He held deep admiration for his daughter and son-in-law, especially as they pursued their lifelong dream of foster care and adoption - a journey he supported wholeheartedly.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia (Vogel) Parr who he married on September 2, 1967, and their devoted daughter, Kelly Putman, (Chris); six grandchildren, Brady, Keegan, Quinn, Sullavan, Ryder, and Sawyer; and his niece, Ann Marie Gaines.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown.
