Clayton K. Smith

Clayton K. Smith, 83, of West Bend, WI, died on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Samaritan Health Center with family by his side. He was born on October 15, 1940, in the Township of Jump River, WI, the son of Llyod and Iris (Phillippi) Smith. Clayton proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1958 – 1962. On September 5, 1964, he married Sharron Trepanier at St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac, WI. 

Clayton’s heart was as vast as the sky he loved to leap into, whether as a Marine parachutist or a member of a skydiving team after his service. Stoic and strong, yet boundlessly compassionate, Clayton had a special place in his heart for both people and animals. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, never asking for anything in return. His gruff exterior, often laced with humor, was his way of showing he cared—if Clayton teased you, it meant he liked you.

He is survived by four children, Kenneth (Betty) Smith of Fond du Lac, Jeffrey (Amy Fischer) Smith of Grafton, Sheryl Smith of Menomonee Falls, and Cynthia (Thomas) Bialzik of Kenosha; two grandchildren, Michelle (Jamie) Nickerson and Jennifer Smith; five great grandchildren; four siblings, Lance (Maxine) Smith, Bruce (Janice) Smith, Sandy (Dawson) Usack, and Mark (Anne) Smith; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Iris; wife, Sharron; granddaughter, Felisha Smith; and three siblings, Patricia Faude, Reeta Sandsnes, and Lloyd Smith Jr.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 11 AM - 2:30 PM, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Cemetery burial, including Military Honors, will immediately follow the Celebration of Life. Clayton will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac, WI, where his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place.
