Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Jun. 24, 2025.
Clinton Daugherty, age 71 1/2, passed peacefully from his earthly home to his heavenly home while in the loving care of his wife, Vicki, on Saturday June 14, 2025. Clinton had courageously battled colon cancer a second time for exactly two years.
Clinton was delivered into this world by Dr. Roy at Magnolia Hospital, Matewan, WV, on Sunday November 29, 1953, to the late Hazel (Daniels) Daugherty and Bro. Willie Daugherty. Willie and Hazel, faithful pastor and wife at Lynn Freewill Baptist Church, servants unto the Lord for over fifty years.
Clinton grew up hunting and fishing. Hunting stories always included Jake Cline, Jake's son David, and best friend Robert Estepp. Always included was "Old Ring" who Clint said was "the best squirrel dog to ever hit the hills".
His love for fishing began on Tug River with Jack Gilliam teaching him as a young boy. Fishing Tug River for over 50 years his last two days fishing The Tug were with his brother Ray. On 9/24/23, as they floated through Buskirk, Ky, Sherri Scott-Markle captured their picture and entered it on Friends of the Tug Fork River group facebook page.
Clint's love of fishing lakes all over took him to Douglas Lake, Dandridge, TN, where he resided since 2010, spending many lake days with Jackie, Ed, Jess, Madison and McKenzie.
More recently Clint fulfilled a dream of his since 1992 in building a home at Lake
Okeechobee, FL. His very last outing on "Lake O" May 24, 2025, was airboat riding with Vicki, Paul & Bea, and Sydney and Brody, where Captain Kenny took us gator watching.
Each of us keep special memories of our last days on the water with Clint. It was his happy place!
As a 1971 graduate of Matewan High School, Clinton penned his yearbook that he wanted to be a heavy equipment operator following watching a man working a dozer on the side of the mountain on a Rt 49 road. And, he definitely fulfilled his occupational dream. So many times he would beam with pride as he voiced that someone had said he was the best dozer man they had ever seen. He took great pride in being an equipment operator.
He was also voted Best Personality, along with Kay (Hartley) Kirk, that Sr. year. And, that trait was part of him his whole life. Clinton could rub elbows with CEO's and just the same befriend someone down on their luck. He was a kind person.
Clinton's skills operating heavy equipment opened opportunities in the surface mining industry. He advanced from being an operator to foreman to superintendent to co-owner of surface mines. He was instrumental in hiring and training many young men to operate surface mining equipment. This began in 1990 and to this day many men remark to his brother Ray that Clinton gave them their start. And, many working still today in the mining/trucking industries providing for their families.
Clinton worked his own construction equipment until fall of 2024, therefore operating equipment 53 years.
In 2000 Clinton transitioned into cattle, beginning with a farm in Chilhowie, VA. Most often his cattle were Black Angus and Herefords. His last cattle farm was in Dandridge, TN. Throughout this 20 year span many lifelong friendships were forged.
Clinton's life achievements and work goals became secondary upon accepting Jesus several years back. And, throughout this battle with cancer he voiced over many times it was by the grace of God only that he remained here with us. On Friday, May 2, 2025, Clinton along with Travis, his brother-in-law, was baptized by Pastor Dallas Peyton, Jr., at
Cooks Chapel Baptist Church in Pipestem, WV. It was a glorious day filled with love.
Hebrews 4: 9-10
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
In addition to his parents Clinton is preceded in death, by brothers Pearlis and Eugene; and, sister and brother-in-law
Virginia (Jim) Jones; nephew David Daugherty. Clinton is also preceded by his in-laws, Ralph and Peggy Sue (Hatfield) Meade. And, it is by them he will be laid to rest at Ellison Hatfield Cemetery, Newtown, WV. Also preceding him is his infant grandniece Peyton Olivia Stephenson and sister-in-law Rebecca C. Meade.
Those left to mourn Clinton as well as cherish precious memories are his wife, Vicki. Brothers:

And, most special to Clinton were his grandnieces and grandnephews that brought so much joy, laughter and just plain fun into his life. Sydney and Brody (Stephenson) lovingly called him "Uncle Clint";
Madison and McKenzie (Estep) lovingly called him "Buddy"; and lastly his little buddy Greyson (Daugherty) called him "Uncle Clint".
Clinton also leaves behind many family members and friends who loved him dearly; many checking on him weekly.
Special thank you to Dr. Syed and staff; Dr. Alejo and staff; staff waiting on us at Raulerson HCA, along with nurses who took such good care of Clinton. And Chapters Health Hospice, beginning with Cherrie and ending with Alyson for the loving care and dignity shown to Clinton. From the HCA to Hospice nurses we received such precious support in
Okeechobee, Florida. And, lastly to Morgan Berggren of Buxton and Bass Funeral Home and Eric and Booney of Chambers Funeral Services, for your genuine compassion.
Clinton had requested of Vicki's brother Paul to handle his funeral arrangements as he knew he would stand strong to bear the sad burden for Vicki in carrying out his final wishes for Pastor Dallas Peyton, Jr. to preside over him; for his especially close cousin, Mike Dingess to speak over him as he felt lead so often to pray for Clinton; and, for Dewey Spencer, a very special friend, to sing.
The family will begin receiving friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in the Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with visitation being held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Honoring services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dallas Peyton, Jr. officiating.
