“C J” Clovis Dardeau, Jr., a beloved member of the Ville Platte community, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the age of 88. C J was born on Tuesday, January 7, 1936, in St. Landry, Louisiana, and dedicated his life to serving others and contributing to the vitality of his hometown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Father Stephen Pellessier officiating services.
C J was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, completing his education in 1954. Following high school, he served honorably in the United States Air Force for 4 years, an experience that shaped his values of discipline and service to community.
For 25 years, C J owned and operated Parkview Supermarket, known affectionately as CJ's. Through his business, C J fostered deep connections with patrons, always offering a friendly smile and genuine care for the well-being of everyone who walked through his doors. His commitment to the community was further exemplified by his role as a Ville Platte City Councilman for over 40 years, where he worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for residents.
C J’s favorite place on Earth was his camp where he could be close to nature and raise his cows, goats, deer, pigs and other animals. He returned to this property to live out the last year of his life. C J found peace and tranquility sitting on his porch or swing overlooking the lake he so loved.
C J Dardeau's legacy of service, kindness, and community spirit will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him including his four children: Jennifer Andrepont (Troy), Stacey Mire (Garrett), and Jude Dardeau all of Ville Platte and Stephen Dardeau (Mary) of Vashon, Washington. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his 9 grandchildren: Seth Andrepont (Carleena), Sarah Zemke (Michael), Elliott Mire (Alyssa), Evan Mire (Caroline), Emma and Elise Mire, and Jude R., Isidore and Leo Dardeau; three great grandchildren: Charlotte Andrepont, Amelie Zemke, and Theodore Zemke; sister, Annetta Juneau; mother of his children, Yvonne Dardeau; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
C J is preceded in death by his parents, Clovis Sr. and Maude Tate Dardeau; wife of 34 years, Clarice Dardeau; and his siblings: Rosemae Doucet, Louella Briley, Myra D. Guillory, Beryl Young, George Anne Hosman, Joyce Comeaux, Hope Landreneau, and Ray, Isom, Winston, and Dale Dardeau.
At the request of the family, a visitation will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte. A rosary, led by Deacon Ben Soileau, will follow at 10:30 AM.
