Connie "Maverick" Hoy, 59, of Los Angeles, California passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, she graduated from Cheyenne Central High School. She attended the University of Wyoming and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She also first attended and then lectured at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona where she lived with her parents and then family for many years. Her son, Jimmy Rothen still lives in the Valley with his wife Elaine, and Connie visited often.
Connie was an avid musician in her band "The Slims" and had an intense love for the art of filmmaking. She started her career working on films in the Valley as production coordinator and assistant director and then expanded to Los Angeles. She began her independent film journey by working under such directors as the Coen Brothers, Jim Jarmusch, Kathryn Bigelow and Allison Eastwood. She contributed to many films including Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Queens of Country, Hack and Battle creek. Connie also established her own production company, Maindiner Entertainment, named in honor of her grandfather Otis L. Hoy.
When she moved to LA permanently, she met Buck Holland, and they were quite a pair. They lived an active, creative life in Los Angeles in and around the film industry and their many friends. She was an ardent fan of the Wyoming Cowboys and Chicago Bears from a very young age and followed the teams throughout the years. Connie enjoyed playing golf, but mostly she loved being with Buck and her many friends and family.
Connie is preceded in death by her husband Buck Holland, and survived by her son, Jimmy Rothen (Elaine DelVecchio). She is also survived by Rick Rothen, her former husband, and her brothers and sisters, Steve Hoy (Annell), Kathy Witsil (Steven), Sandy Helzer (Jim), and Rick Hoy (Anne). Her extended family includes Chris and Kim Holland, Kim and Stephen Kolhoffer, Heather and Rob MacCulloch, Eric & Simmon Holland as well as her "Grands": Stephanie, Sebastian, Kaitlyn, Cole, Clara, Eric, Ruby, Lolo and Bean. The joy of her life was watching Jimmy and Elaine grow and thrive in the Phoenix valley. She was always unapologetically her genuine self and was the best mother a son could ask for.
In lieu of flowers or other memorials, we request donations be made in honor of Connie to the "Scottsdale School of Film+Theatre" - benefiting students at Scottsdale Community College (SCC). Please make checks payable to "SCC" and reference "Constance Hoy and Film "on the memo line of the check. Please mail your memorial gift to Scottsdale Community College, Development Department, 9000 E. Chaparral Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85256.
For those who would like to honor her in Wyoming, please direct donations to the Cowboy Joe Club https://cowboyjoeclub.com supporting University of Wyoming Athletics.
Memorial services will be held at Rustic Canyon Park in Santa Monica, CA on Friday August 23 at 10:30 am.

I worked with Connie Maverick Hoy on 7 films and she was an absolute gift, consummate professional, artistic marvel and flat out fun and great crew member in all ways! Connie was as genuine and authentic as the day is long and had the innate ability to quickly develop solid working relationships-complete, spotless, fully developed relationships always embracing and celebrating everyone's unique set of values that they brought to the film, always knowing and understanding what is best and good in us crew members, and always wanting what is best and good for us crew members, for the sake of us crew members.Connie was refined and cultivated and yet very functional and earthbound with very deep intuitive knowledge, lots of common sense, great sense of humor and tons of love-Connie Maverick Hoy was Beautiful in All Ways!

Connnie and I share cinematography experiences with cameras and associated equipment. We both honored Connie's Grandfather Otis and Grandmother Fern Hoy, who made the "Maindiner" restaurant a legend at Cheyenne, WY. Otis and Fern mentored me during my vacation visits at Cheyenne, and working at the "Maindiner" and enjoying many family activities with her father Richard, mother Helen and his sibling. God Bless Connie. Amen

I was told today that my friend Connie has unexpectedly passed away. I´ve known Connie since 1997 and we´ve worked together on a lot of films. Connie and I always got along and she was an absolute pleasure to be around. I really don´t know how to structure my feelings into sentences right now, and there is no short of special memories to share about Connie. I´m in shock right now, pray for Connie´s son and family, pray for peace and calm for her family. Connie was way too young to go, I miss her, and will always wholeheartedly. I´m sorry Connie, I love you and thank you for being my dear friend. There´s not another person like Connie. I love you and will miss you!

Love,

Jason Wozny
