Cora Horst Obituary

She was born October 19, 1924, to the late Adin and Ida Risser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Horst, and her siblings, Ethel Showalter, Lois Horst, Benjamin Risser, and Esther Risser. Cora Marie Risser married Edgar Horst, the son of the late Clarence and Nannie Horst, on November 1, 1947, and they faithfully served God together for more than 72 years.
Cora was baptized at Reiff's Mennonite Church. They served at Goshen Mennonite Church, Laytonsville, MD, and then at Mt Zion Mennonite Church near Mapleville, MD. Cora has appreciated the fellowship at Maugansville Church.
Cora was a homemaker who volunteered with World Treasures Thrift Shop and quilted for relief through Cumberland Valley Relief Center. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, serving others, and being with family and friends and keeping up with them through Facebook. She will be remembered for her love of people, joy in service, and her cooking, especially her chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her three children, Esther (William) Smith of Monrovia, MD, Mary Lois (the Late Garry) Doub of Greencastle, PA, and Clarence (Kathy) Horst of Maugansville, MD. Cora has 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
A service celebrating what Christ has done in the life of Cora Horst will be held at Mt. Zion Mennonite Church, 10 am Saturday April 26, 2025 with viewing before the service from 9-10 am. Interment will be at the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church Cemetery immediately following the service. Cora's son, Clarence Horst will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cora's name to Cumberland Valley Relief Center, 4225 Molly Pitcher Hwy., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
