Cordell Page Porter, 84, of Greenville, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
Born October 26, 1939 in Montgomery, AL, he was the son of the late Sumter Eugene and Kathryn Page Porter.
Cordell attended the University of Alabama until his family moved to Springfield, SC in 1960. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Accounting. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and a loyal Gamecock fan.
After 10 years of employment with the Internal Revenue Service, Cordell decided to join a private practice as a certified public accountant. Throughout his life, he was a mentor to many aspiring accountants. He was a long-time member and volunteer with the Greenville Civitan Club. Cordell was an active communicant of Trinity United Methodist Church and later City View First Baptist Church, where he shared his leadership and financial knowledge as Chairman of the Finance Committee and member of the Budget Ministry Committee.
Cordell enjoyed spending time at White Oak Mountain and Debordieu with his family. Many special memories were made at the farm in Springfield, SC, with his parents and his brother. He loved being outdoors, working in his garden, and bird watching.
Being humble and soft spoken, Cordell was a true Southern gentleman. His kind and generous nature, bright smile and sense of humor were treasured by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Corbin Porter, of Greenville; daughter, Laurie Halter Patrick (Tom) of Greenville; son, Dell Porter (Lisa) of Easley; stepchildren, Alonda Rollison (Steve) and Jody Odom, of Greenville, and Vicky Lynch (Patrick) of Little River, SC; four grandchildren, Caine Halter, Jr. (Callie), Page Pollard (David), Sarah Wardlaw (Zach) and Will Porter; and one great-grandchild, Emma Kate Wardlaw.
In addition to his parents, Cordell was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Porter; son-in-law, Caine Halter; and great-grandchild, Luke Sumter Wardlaw.
"A special thanks to McCall Hospice House for their compassionate care."
Visitation will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at City View First Baptist Church. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to City View First Baptist Church Faith Fund, 2300 W. Blue Ridge Dr., Greenville, SC 2961 or McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680.

Uncle Cordell was very kind, gentle and sweet to me and my siblings. The Porter farm in Springfield is the backdrop of my first and probably best memories of him, although I vividly remember Cordell giving me loofa sponges from his garden at his and my aunts house in Greenville. I was amazed that my uncle figured out how to grow those things! Never severe, always with a smile, he will be greatly missed.
