Corenthia Lavern "Cola" Brown
April 20, 1958 – March 9, 2024
LAFAYETTE: The services for Corenthia Lavern "Cola" Brown will take place Friday March 15, 2024 at Kinchen Funeral Home in Lafayette. Visitation begins at 9 am followed by the service at 11 am.
Corenthia Lavern Brown, best known as "Cola", was born April 20, 1958 in Lafayette, La. to Inez Poydras Brown and Clifton Brown Sr. She was the eighth child of ten. She grew up on Morgan St. before her family moved to Happiness St. when she was in grade school. Corenthia attended Lafayette High School where she was known as "Pretty Pearl" and sang in the choir. In 1976 Corenthia was the 1st black Homecoming Queen of Lafayette High School. Corenthia was passionate about food and was the Chef of Keith's Ballroom Downtown catering many weddings and events for over a decade. Corenthia retired as a Food Services Manager from Our Lady Lourdes Medical Center so she could spend more time with her children and grandchildren.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her longtime partner Elijah Bussey and their beloved children Elijah (Janine) Brown, O'Tani (Howard) Prejean, Jontel (Mohammed) Chevalier, Carderro Brown, Keenya (Dervin) Mouton, and Enez Brown as well as her four siblings Cecelia Brown, Romelldia Brown, Jessica Mason, and Angelina Brown. Corenthia has 16 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever love and miss her.
Corenthia is proceeded in death by her parents Clifton & Inez Poydras Brown, her siblings Rose Mary Sam, Mary Agnes Brown, Yola Malbreaux, Clifton Brown Jr., and Willie Brown.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation for the love and care provided by her Oncologist Dr. Masala and the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Hospice of Acadiana for their dedicated service during this difficult time.
