Cory Charles DeBrake

Cory Charles DeBrake, aka, Cor Bassman passed away from pneumonia on January 17th at his home in Benicia. He was born in Vallejo, only child of Leslie and June Debrake, he grew up and went to school in Benicia, also lived in Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Dublin.
Cory studied robotics, computer science, and electronics at Heald Technical School and Machine Tool Technology from Solano Community College. Cory was an entrepreneur, started many businesses and was involved in start up companies. Cor Designs, website design and development company. AV images Inc, he developed next generation hardware and projection technologies for the trade show industry. Currently the owner of Bay Area Datacom, a design and installation of fiber networks company that he started in 2008 with co-founder Joe Smulan.
Cor Bassman was a composer, bassist, instrument luthier, engineer, producer, audio engineer of his company ON2R, he was a writing member of ASCAP since 1987. He created Cor Bassmans' custom and modified Basses that designed and customized string instruments and their electronics. He did voice over and audio production.
Cory's first paid musical gig was in 1974 he was 15, he went on to perform on and produced over 20 albums. He has shared the stage with various artists such as Lou Rawls, Patti Labelle, Ronnie Montrose, Sammy Hagar, Todd Rundgren, Randy Hanson, Glass Tiger, Smothers Brothers, Neil Shone, and others.
Cor Bassman formed Cor and Company in the late 80's, a local Bay Area band composed of artists from bands like: Tower of Power, Robert Cray, Elvin Bishop, Karin White, Whispers, Pacific Brass and Electric to name a few.
Cor Bassman is currently in Groove Dragon, Greg Rahn Band, and Jeffrey James Trio, in past with Time Bandits and The Real Imposters to name of few.
Besides making music, playing music and making basses, his other passions were camping, boating, off- roading, and adventure motorcycling.
Cory is survived by his 95 year old Mother June DeBrake, cousins Stefani Rutledge, Roger Driver, Terry Driver, Shirley Swan and Dan Gonsalves. Cory was preceded by his father Leslie C. DeBrake who passed in 1986. Private services with family at St Dominic's Church.
Cory's Celebration of Life will be held at Benicia Veterans Memorial Hall at 1150 1st St from 4pm to 7pm on March 7th.
Cory's Musical Celebration of Life hosted by Lucca's Beer Garden at 116 West E St from 2pm to 9:30pm on March 8th.
