Craig F. Verdung, of McHenry, IL passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. He was born on December 9, 1943 in Chicago IL to parents Francis and Mary (Atnip) Verdung.
Craig's life was beautifully intertwined with that of his beloved wife Linda, with whom he first locked eyes in the halls of Crystal Lake Central High School. Their bond, rooted in youthful romance, blossomed into a partnership filled with shared adventures and a deep commitment to one another. Together, they created a vibrant family life, filled with laughter and love. Every summer, they traveled to the lake, creating lasting memories with family; these treasured moments were further enriched by special trips to Hawaii with loved ones.
A proud graduate of Cary Grove High School, class of 1962, Craig pursued an education in electrical engineering, which he continued to expand during his honorable service in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1968. His dedication to his country and his family were hallmarks of his character.
Fishing was a passion that Craig shared with his son, brothers, grandson, and friends, as they embarked on annual spring and fall fishing trips to the serene waters of Canada. He was known as the "gadget guru" in his family, often ordering the latest innovations on Amazon, much to the delight and bemusement of those around him.
Above all, Craig was a loving, caring, and gentle soul, fiercely protective of his family. His dry sense of humor and warm spirit endeared him to everyone he met. Craig's commitment to spending time with his grandchildren brought him immense joy, as he relished being a part of their lives, guiding and nurturing them with an unwavering affection.
His indelible spirit and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Craig F. Verdung will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire his family and friends for generations to come.
Craig leaves behind his Wife, Linda, children Dana (Ed Fojtik) Thennes, and Stephen (Diane) Verdung, Grandchildren Elaina Verdung, Thomas Verdung and siblings Michael (Corinne) Verdung, Gary (Linda) Verdung, and Scott Verdung.
