Cynthia J. Gray, 73, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on July 30, 2024 at SSM Health Saint Mary's Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was born August 5, 1950 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late William and Gwendolyn (Capps) Quinn. Cindy married Don Gray on December 14, 1974 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly forty-two years of marriage before he preceded he in death on July 18, 2016.
Cindy is survived by her sister, Diane Wagner and husband, Duane of Mount Vernon; nephew, Cameron Wagner and wife, Kay Anne of Dix; great-nephews, Gavin and Ashton; and great-niece, Katelyn.
In addition to her parents and husband, Cindy was preceded in death by her sister, Soraya Clark; infant brother, Kevin Quinn; and in-laws, Red and Wretha Gray.
Cindy worked at Western Union in Mount Vernon and also for Dr. Terry Cook. She later worked for Skibo Eye Care. Cindy was a member of Central Christian Church and she was active in leading the Hope Grief Group. She served in the Thanksgiving Coat Drive and served meals on wheels. Cindy loved her flower garden and her and Don would never turn down a stray cat in need of a loving home. Cindy was a very caring and loving person and will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Brian Fuller officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Cindy's honor to Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
