ROCKY MOUNT, NC - Cynthia Kennette Rogers Burgos, affectionately known as "Shorty", a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on June 4, 1974, in
Scotland Neck, North Carolina, Kennette lived an immeasurable life, full of love, adventure, and dedication to her family and community.
Kennette was a beacon of hard work and determination, serving as a Shipping and Receiving Coordinator at Ossid Packaging in Rocky Mount since December 3, 2001. Her colleagues remember her as someone who never shied away from a challenge and approached every task with unwavering commitment.
A true North Carolinian at heart, Kennette's spirit was as lively and adventurous as the state she called home. She was an enthusiastic sports fan, cheering on everything from college sports to Panthers Football and Hurricanes Hockey. Her zest for life led her to embrace thrilling experiences, trying her hand at the slingshot ride and conquering any roller coaster she encountered. When she got something on her mind, she was relentless until she had it figured out.
Kennette's love for music was boundless, and she found immense joy in singing across all genres, as well as dancing, which was a testament to her vibrant personality, and she shared her passion with those around her. She also enjoyed relaxing at the beach as well fishing. Many people fondly remember Kennette as being a bit outspoken and "truthful to a T"; but when she was with you, she was with you 100% ~ a true friend at all times.
Her heart was as vast as her interests. Kennette was deeply involved in her community, enjoying spending free time at Good Tymes in Rocky Mount, where she played a pivotal role in organizing fundraisers for The Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy and
Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Her compassion extended to her church, Avalon Baptist Church, where she was an active member and nursery assistant. She delighted in helping during Vacation Bible School, where her love for children shone brightly as she engaged with them, witnessing the wonder in their eyes.
Kennette was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marie Smith, Wiley B. Joyner, Hattie Bland, Asa Rogers; her father, Kenneth "Kenny Earl" Rogers; and her uncle, Horace Joyner.
Above all, Kennette cherished her family. She is survived by her loving mother, Cindy Joyner Rogers; her devoted sons, Mario N. Burgos, Jr., and wife Stephanie, and Diego A.
