Cyril Edward Wager, 79, was born on February 19, 1945, to Henry Wager and Eunice Blow Wager in Madisonville, Louisiana. He passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at his home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, surrounded by loved ones.
Cyril attended Covington High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army at age 17. Beginning his military service in 1962, he spent three years stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he built a career in construction, applying the same dedication and hard work that characterized his military service. Cyril had an innate ability of working with his hands. From welding and finishing concrete to roofing houses, masonry work and erecting fences, he learned quickly and, with many tasks, was self-taught. Cyril's true talent and passion, however, was woodworking. In his retirement years, he would spend hours in his workshop refurbishing antiques and creating beautiful custom pieces for family, friends, church members and customers.
A man of faith, Cyril was a devoted and longtime member of Bedico Baptist Church where he was actively involved in various church activities over the decades. He was known for his generosity, often visiting with and delivering meals to house-bound church members, ensuring they remained connected to their church family and community.
In addition to woodworking, Cyril's interests included studying his bible, tending to his vegetable garden and planting flowers in his yard. He had a fondness for antiques and western movies, and enjoyed family gatherings. He was also an avid fan of Saints football and LSU sports.
Cyril is survived by his four children and two stepchildren: daughter Krista Kuehner (Anthony) with former wife Jadwiga Bruhl; son Kevin Wager (Martina), daughter Amy Wager, and daughter Tara Werner with former wife Virginia McLain Wager; and stepdaughter Sharon Moore (Brett) and stepson Jeffrey Delatte. He also leaves behind his brother Chester Wager (Mary Alice), 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, church family and friends. Cyril was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Wager, stepson Benjamin Delatte, Jr., parents Henry Wager and Eunice Blow Wager, siblings Marion McCarroll, Dale Matlock, and Harold Wager, niece Beverly Landry and nephew Darold Wager.
Cyril gave generously of himself to his family, his friends and his faith. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at Bedico Baptist Church, 28156 Highway 22, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454. Visitation is Friday, November 22, 2024, from 5 pm to 9 pm, and again on Saturday, November 23, 2024, beginning at 9 am until service time at 11 am. Interment is at Wager Cemetery in Madisonville, Louisiana. Food and fellowship at Bedico Baptist Church will immediately follow the graveside ceremony.
