D. Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Dale City on Jan. 23, 2026.
Marquis De-Shawn Johnson affectionately known as "Q" by family and friends and "Airborne/Kees" in the basketball community was born on July 17, 2004, to his parents Marc Johnson, Sr and La-Wanda Johnson in Fairfax, VA. He transitioned on January 10, 2026, in Valencia, Spain.

Q was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, godbrother, cousin, and friend whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and joy wherever he went. He was known for his friendly and outgoing personality, his humor, manners, and the respect he showed to everyone he encountered.

Although he was homeschooled, Q attended Potomac High School in his senior year where he was enrolled in NJROTC. An accomplished student, Q maintained being an honor roll student, was on the Presidents lists, graduated Magna cum laude and is listed in Who's Who in America. Prior to being homeschooled he attended Hope Aglow Christian Academy for preschool, Mary Williams School (K) and Porter Traditional School. In the homeschool community, Q also played the keyboard in orchestra and wrote his first song showing his creative and musical side. After graduating high school, he continued his education in Cybersecurity.

At the age of eight, he received his black belt in Taekwondo. After that achievement, athletics played a central role in Q's life. He had a deep passion for basketball and dreamed of playing professionally.

Throughout his school years, Q played football, soccer, basketball (point guard), and ran track with the Fort Belvoir leagues. He played basketball at Evangel Christian Academy, Immanuel Christian School, Word of Life Christian Academy, Potomac High School, and in the AAU league with the Thunder Team and FLYE. He was a tremendous asset to the teams and his leadership skills helped bring them a championship victory. Q was a devoted fan of Duke basketball, the Baltimore Ravens, and greatly admired Chris Paul. He would spend hours watching basketball videos, studying the game he loved.

Q, also enjoyed traveling, swimming, and sitting quietly by the water. As a child he delighted in reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants series – and was found joyfully running through the house wearing nothing but his underwear and a cape.

Most importantly, Q loved his family and cherished time with them. He accepted the Lord in his life and was baptized at an early age. He grew up in Hope Aglow Empowerment Church where he was actively involved in children's church and youth ministry. After church while his parents stood around chatting with the members, Q could be found outside in the back of the church playing basketball with his brother, Mac, and buddies Jedaiah and Micah Dancy.

Marquis "Q" Johnson's life, though brief, was impactful. His smile, laughter, faith and passion will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his parents, Marc Johnson, Sr and La-Wanda Johnson; his brother, Marc (Mac) Johnson, Jr; his maternal grandmother, Evangelist Felicia Price; his aunts, Selena Mitchell (Dennis), Robin Thompson, Wendy Thompson-Wiley (Les), LaTonja Kitchens, and Iasia Lee (Kerry); his uncles, Isaac Johnson, Bruce Johnson (Kiesha), Kevin Johnson, Keith Kitchens, and Juan Thompson (Annie); his godparents Louis Neal and Evangelist Gloria Neal; his godsisters, Minister A'nasia Wiley, Dominique Solise, Amber and Amaria Neal, Omecia Hill, and MaKenzie Ware; his godbrother, Antoine Wiley, his brothers for life: Trent Dao, Ben Harlow and Joseph Hines, his boys: Terrence Crawford, Eyor Neamin, Dawit Tamrat, and Josiah Fields who loved him deeply along with a host of cousins, honorary godsiblings, extended family members, and friends.

Q was preceded in death by his grandfathers John Thompson and Isaac Johnson, Grandmother, Gloria Johnson, aunts Dawn and Charisse Johnson and Great-grandfather Isaac Johnson, cousin Jermel Thompson and best friend, Kyle Honore.
