D.W. Woods Jr., age 79, of Denton, TX passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at home, surrounded by loved ones, following a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. D.W. was born in Denton, TX on September 24, 1946 to D.W. and Euna Mae (Brown) Woods. He married Kathy Renee Tabor on December 19, 1981. In 1969, D.W. began working as a service specialist for Lone Star Gas and later for TXU. In 2002, after 33 years of loyal service, he hung up his tools and began enjoying the life he had worked so hard to build. He loved quiet mornings by the water with a fishing pole in hand and the peaceful stillness of a hunting trip at sunrise. When he wasn't outdoors, you could often find him strumming his guitar or sharing a laugh with family and friends over a game of dominoes - his favorite game was 42. Music brought D.W. great joy, and he never missed a chance to go see his favorite artist, Will Banister, perform. More than anything, he cherished time spent with family - the conversations, the laughter, and the simple moments that made life meaningful. D.W. leaves a legacy of kindness, humor, loyalty, and love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. D.W. is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Kathy Woods; three daughters, Jana (Tony) Marciel of Sanger, TX, Rhonda Metcalf (Stacey Miller) of Denton, TX, Emilie (Eric) Campbell of Ashland, KS; one stepdaughter, Amy (Elaina) Stanford of Ingleside, TX; nine grandchildren, Angelina, Marisa, & Eric Marciel; Krista (George) Adams, Kayla Metcalf (Scottie Johnston), & Kile Metcalf, Mahala & Mykelti Campbell, and Rachel (Adrian) Buitron; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil Woods of Valley View, TX, and Bill (Sue) Woods of Baird, TX; two sisters, Mary Hammons and Carolyn Hill of Sanger, TX; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, D.W. and Euna Mae Woods, and one sister, Mae Jean Woods. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the Optimist Gym, 3100 N. Elm St. Denton, TX with Julie Ikpah officiating. The family requests donations to the Optimist Gym in lieu of flowers. The family acknowledges, with their deepest gratitude, the compassionate and stellar care provided over the last three weeks of D.W.'s life by Lifted Hospice.
