Dae Sik Kim November 14, 1933-January 20, 2025
Dae Sik Kim, 91, of Newton Highlands, was born November 14, 1933, in Busan, South Korea and was the fourth of 7 children born to Pil Soon and Tae Yong Kim.

He graduated from Seoul University and came to the US in 1954 to receive his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University and remained a loyal Buckeye fan to his dying day. He went to work for Esso Research in New Jersey which is where he met his beloved wife, Agnes Kyung Hee Kim, of 53 years who passed in 2018. He was responsible for inventing the cold-cranking simulator and more than a dozen other patents including a non-polluting engine, an environmentally-friendly painting system, a handicapped lift for vehicles, an anti-drunk driving and most recently, a flying car.
Dae loved to talk and tell stories about all his family and colleagues and went out of his way to help so many people throughout his lifetime.

He was an incredibly smart, kind, funny and generous man who loved his family, especially his only surviving sibling, YS Kim and her longtime business partner, Doug, beyond measure. He was an amazing dad and beloved grandfather to his two grandsons, Nicholas and Max Aicardi, who were his pride and joy.

Dae passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025. He will be remembered at a private family service.

Much has been written about Dr. Dae Sik Kim and his many inventions and achievements in obituaries, on Wikipedia (for his oil viscosity testing equipment) and on various websites (including Enbede.com (http://www.enbede.com/DS-Kim.htm ), iprsinc.org (http://www.iprsinc.org/IPRS_InvHighlight1.htm) as well as his own company´s website. https://www.kimatlab.com/ .

While the full significance of some of his inventions have yet to be realized, he is among good company of those inventor/entrepreneurs whose inventions took decades or even centuries after their departure to be acknowledged and implemented.

He will be remembered for his stories full of candor and insights as well as for his concern for the environment offering solutions to major problems despite their potentially disruptive impact on current ways of "doing business." But, perhaps Dr. Kim will be remembered best by independent inventors who benefitted from his counsel and support over the more than 30 years he was involved with the Inventors Association of New England (IANE) that met monthly at MIT. Thank you Dr. Kim for your life-long commitment to inventing and to inventors.

Dr. Donald Job, worked with Dr. Kim on various projects including serving inventors of IANE for more than 30 years. He now resides in North Carolina where he continues his own inventing addressing both medical and environmental needs.

I have known Dr, Kim for over 40 years. We have spent many hours talking with me thoroughly enjoying his stories. I got as much joy in listening to them as he enjoyed telling them. What a great humanitarian! He devoted his life to improve mankind and he certainly did that with me. I am a much better person for spending time with him. I wish his family strength and happiness. We are all so grateful to you for sharing Dr. Kim with us.

I met Doc in 1994 when I came to work at The Coffee Corner. I never would have guessed I would be there 21yrs. Therefore a long lasting evolution of a friendship developed. As anyone who knew him knows, He was The quirkiest, most creative and funny man. He would pop in at least 3 times a day and hang out with the regulars. I hadn't seen him much in recent years but We did talk on the phone regularly. He told me to come visit soon and I am sorry that I didn't get a chance to see him again. We always think we have time-don't we?
