Dakota James Burns entered eternity on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, at the age of 24. Born on Thursday, August 31st, 2000, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Dakota was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend whose light will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dakota was a graduate of New Albany High School, Class of 2019. He devoted himself to his work at Home Depot, where he was a valued team member in the Garden Center at the New Albany location. Dakota had a passion for gaming and technology. He had an incredible enthusiasm for computers and video games, fueling a lifelong interest that he enjoyed sharing with others.
Dakota's smile and warm presence touched everyone he met. A loving husband, devoted father, and devoted son, Dakota's proudest achievement was his beautiful daughter, EmmaJean Burns, whom he adored with all his heart.
Dakota is survived by his loving wife, Paizley Burns; his father, Jeffrey Burns (Brittany) and his mother, Amanda Burns (Scott); his treasured daughter, EmmaJean Burns; his brothers, Dalton Burns (Cheyann) and Daniel Burns (Ashley Jones); and his sisters, Lilliana Burns and Layla Burns. Dakota also leaves to cherish his memory, his grandfather, Willard Clark (Sherry), his grandmothers, Rhonda Clark and Gayle Faith and his brothers-in-law, Zack Hardin and Timmy Hardin. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Joyce Clark, whose memory he held dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172). Visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In this time of grief, the family requests that donations be made directly to the funeral home to help ease the burden of final expenses.

I still can't believe your gone D Burns. You were as close to being my son as anyone could be without being my actual son. We all miss you every single day. You've left a big hole in our family. We talk about you all the time, all the funny stories and memories of you will forever be in my heart and mind. I really can't believe there will be no more memories made. You will live on forever in our hearts and we will keep you fresh in our minds by always talking about you and the funny things we all did together. Youvmade a big impact in this world even though you left it way too soon. We love you amd will never stop missing you.

I have so many memories of D Burns, he was like another member of our family. He was around since he and Cheyton were in grade school.
I remember when we were building our house and he was coming out, he said he was bringing a hammer to help. When he got here it was the smallest little hammer we'd ever seen. It was very funny, we all (including him) laughed about it for years.
He told us a story about helping, I believe it was his grandfather under a house in the crawl space and a box fell on him. I won't share the rest because it was supposed to be a secret, but it was maybe the funniest story I've heard happen to a person.
He and I talked all the time, he was just a great young fella. He talked so much about how much he loved his wonderful wife Paizley and his beautiful daughter EmmaJean.
He will be missed dearly and will live on forever in hearts and stories of many. I'm so sorry to the family. You will all be in my prayers.
