Our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, Dale Gilmer Barnett, 85, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his family. Dale was born on June 18, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Woodrow Gilmer and Margaret Ruth Anderson Barnett. He grew up in Richland, Washington, Sunset, Utah, and graduated from Davis High School, Class of 1958. He then served in the Southern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, mostly serving in Florida and Alabama.

Dale married Ruth Elaine Burton on June 4, 1964, in Salt Lake City. They were blessed with five wonderful children. They raised their family in Woods Cross City and Fruit Heights City before settling in North Ogden, Utah.

Education was important to Dale, and he graduated from BYU with a Master’s degree in Education Administration. He had a passion for teaching and was a dedicated mentor, working for the Davis County School District as a teacher, a Principal, and later retiring as a District Area Director of Public Schools after an outstanding career of 33 years in servant leadership.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. He served as a counselor in a bishopric, as executive secretary and clerk for the stake, and also as a Sunday School President.

Dale treasured the time spent with his family. He enjoyed traveling, making educational vacations an annual family event. They went to museums, Church History sites, throughout the United States and all over Canada, and Mexico, and loved every minute of it. Seeing the highlights by driving was a preference over flying anywhere.

Dale enjoyed collecting. He loved riding motorcycles and maintaining his possessions like new. He was meticulous with everything that he treasured.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; children, Shauna Barnett, Chad (Julie) Barnett; Eric (Lisa) Barnett, Bret (Charity) Barnett, and Carrie (Tye) Cannon; 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and by his sister, Sheryn Lee (John E.) Burton. There are also two buns in the oven.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Brent, Gene, and David, and by one grandson, Carter Tyler Barnett.

The family wishes to thank the staff of CNS Hospice and of Our House Assisted Living of Ogden for their loving, caring, compassionate service.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.
