Dan Zimmerman

N7BHB is a silent key - Dan E. Zimmerman, age 80, passed away on October 10, 2025, in Spokane Valley, Washington.

Born on January 8, 1945, in Portland, Oregon, Dan grew up with a deep curiosity and a passion for communication that would shape much of his life. He graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane Valley in 1963 and went on to earn a degree in Radio-Television (RTV) from Eastern Washington University in 1967.

Dan's professional journey was as diverse as it was dedicated. He began his career as a photographer for Q6 before serving as a trooper with the Washington State Patrol. His commitment to public service continued through his work with Ruralite as both a lineman and safety instructor. He later joined Grant County Public Utility District (PUD), where he worked as a lineman until his retirement in 2010. In addition to his formal roles, Dan gave generously of his time as a volunteer fireman for many years.

A lifelong enthusiast of ham radio, Dan operated under the call sign N7BHB from his early teens and remained active in the community throughout his life. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of hunting, fishing, and camping-activities that brought him joy and connection with nature.

Dan also had a flair for the unexpected. He was one of three "Whistling Midgets" from Davenport, Washington-a group whose unique talent earned them an appearance on the Gong Show. His sense of humor and willingness to embrace life's quirks left lasting impressions on those around him.

He was also a proud Mason, committed to the values of brotherhood and service that the organization upholds.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife Jeannie (Fry, White-Hubbard); his daughters Christine (Tom) Watkins and Julie Waters; stepdaughters Chandra (Alan) Burnside and Brianna McCallum; grandchildren TC, Mary-Catherine, Andrew Burnside, Meredith McCallum, and Gunnar McCallum; sister Joy (Bob) Fay; and brother Jon Zimmerman.

May Dan's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who remember his dedication to service, family, and community. A Memorial Gathering will be held on October 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church 3606 S Schafer
