With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Dolezal, who left this world peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born on September 6, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, Daniel was the beloved son of Joseph John Dolezal and Agnes Catherine Cvikel Dolezal. He spent his younger years in Gardena, CA, where he developed the strength of character, resilience, and quiet humility that would guide him throughout his life. Daniel proudly served in the United States Navy for 32 years, rising to the distinguished rank of E-9 Command Master Chief. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served aboard the USS Constellation, dedicating himself to his country with honor, courage, and unwavering loyalty. His military service left an indelible mark on all who served alongside him. Following his retirement from the Navy, Daniel continued a life of service-as a firefighter, later becoming Assistant Fire Chief and then Fire Chief of the Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed a 35-year career as a supervisor over computer programmers at Mobil Oil. Faith and community were at the heart of Daniel's life. A devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Daniel found deep fulfillment in serving his parish and participating in community activities. He was a man of deep faith, loyal friendship, and gentle kindness. On October 13, 1962, Daniel married Mary Antoinette Dolezal and together they shared 50 beautiful years together full of love, strength, and faith until her passing. Though Mary passed before him, her memory remained a guiding light in Daniel's life.
Daniel found his greatest joy in simple, meaningful moments like reading a good book, playing games, traveling with his daughter Susan, or spending time with his cherished coonhound, Lady, who was never far from his side. Whether he was helping organize an event with the Knights of Columbus or simply sharing a quiet evening at home, Daniel gave his presence fully and sincerely and lived his whole life with a servant's heart. He is survived by his loving daughter, Susan Elizabeth Dolezal and his two nieces Denise Dollard of Monrovia, California and Karen Dollard of Arcadia, California, who will carry his memory forward with love. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his wife Mary, his parents Joseph and Agnes, his sister Barbara Scofield, and the many loved ones who have gone before him.
Daniel's life was a testament to duty, honor, and love. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his selfless service, and the quiet strength that touched so many lives. In honoring Daniel, may we all strive to live with a little more kindness, devotion, and care-just as he did every day. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. Click here to view live stream.
