Daniel Torres Lopez, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Son, Brother, Mentor, Coach, and friend was suddenly called home on Sunday, November 5, 2023 to reunite with his son Daniel Lopez Jr.
Daniel was born on February 22, 1952 to the parents of Marciel and Frances Lopez in Austin, Texas. He was raised alongside of three brothers and a sister: Jesse, Alfred, Joe and Mary Helen Lopez.
After Daniel graduated from Del Valle High School in 1971, he went on to study culinary arts in at Delmar College in Corpus Christi. Before graduation, he received his draft notice to enlisted in the Army in 1972, as he served his country honorably for 6 years. As Daniel had a continual desire for education, he enrolled and graduated from Texas State Technical Institute of Waco as a civil engineer. From 1986-2011, he began his service to the City of Austin and retired after 25 years as Superintendent of Field Operations. As a lifelong learner, he continued to expand his personal education in various adventures & projects, even after retirement.
Daniel had the great privilege of marrying his high school sweetheart Julia Perez Govea. The young love birds were from rival schools but met by chance at a community dance. After years of courtship, the two united as one and married on June 23, 1973. Thereafter, they began to grow their family of three: Christine, Daniel Jr. and Jennifer Lopez. Daniel & Julia shared a love so pure of honesty, integrity, patience, honor and commitment throughout their marriage. They have been blessed with the fortitude and faith to celebrate 50 years of marriage on June 23, 2023.
Daniel loved without reserve and gave of himself without hesitation to his family and community. Through all of life's adventures, he wore many hats ranging from coach of sports, scout leader, financial stewardship coach, and ordained minister along with providing his devoted love to his church of Promiseland. Being a kind and dependable family man was of the utmost importance to Daniel and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.
Daniel is preceded in death by his son Daniel Lopez Jr., his brother Alfred T. Lopez, his sister Mary Helen Lopez and his parents.
