Daniel Morrison Obituary
Daniel H. D. Morrison of Newtown died peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the Birches of Newtown. He was 94.
Born in Philadelphia to Daniel and Elizabeth Morrison, he was the youngest son of a proud family of Scottish immigrants, brother to the late May Moritz, Isabelle Killough, Robert Morrison, Elizabeth Wenhold, and Jean Foos. Dan was the beloved husband of the late Mary Anne Melair Morrison, to whom he was married for 68 years.
Dan graduated from Cheltenham High School and attended Drexel University. When his Marine Reserve unit was called up for action in the Korean War, Dan earned his wings as a Marine aviator and flew more than 100 combat missions while stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Wright. Following his military service, he became a pilot for Eastern Airlines, flying Constellations, DC9s, and A300s during a career that spanned 32 years. After his retirement from Eastern, he continued his aviation career as a flight safety inspector with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Throughout his life, Dan was active in his church and community. Dan and Mary were long-time members of the Newtown Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon, elder and trustee, leader of the youth group, and tenor in the choir. Dan enjoyed coaching youth sports, with many local wrestlers owing their start to his work with the Newtown Youth Association. He was a founding board member and active volunteer with the Bucks County Interfaith Housing Authority, helping numerous families achieve their dream of owning a home, and was an active member of the Newtown Exchange Club.
Above all else, Dan was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He and Mary were a devoted and loving couple from the time they met in the 6th grade until Mary's passing in 2022. Together they enjoyed raising their family, serving the community, playing golf, and traveling to locales as nearby as the Poconos and as far away as China. They were frequent hosts of family picnics and loved to spend time with friends and neighbors.
His children will always remember Dan as a loving and supportive Dad, but it's clear that his greatest role in life was being "Pop" to his adoring grandchildren. No matter the circumstance, Pop was always there with love and encouragement. Dan is survived by his devoted children, Daniel H. D. Morrison Jr. and his wife Susan, Angela L. Morrison and her spouse Carla Higgins, and Thomas P. Morrison and his wife Kathleen. Dan was the proud Pop of Daniel B. Morrison and his wife Bailey, Sarah E. Morrison and her husband Matthew Crane, Brett N. Morrison, and William A. Morrison. He and Mom will be forever in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate this faithful servant of God at a Memorial Service on March 29, 2025 at 11am, at the Newtown Presbyterian Church, 25 North Chancellor St. Newtown. All are welcome to greet Dan's family at 10am, prior to the service.
His interment will be private.
Contributions in his memory to Newtown Presbyterian Church at the above address would be appreciated.
