Dan was a student of mine and after that we became close friends for the remainder of his life. He was a giver not a taker and he enjoyed people and served as a mentor to many including my three adult children. Dan was a gifted athlete and loving Father, Grandfather, Husband, and Friend. I will miss this extraordinary man who leaves the world better than he found it.

I was the little brother of Dan´s Galesburg High School sweetheart, Susan. I am forever grateful to Dan and his family - his brother Tom, mother Martha, and dad Al - for their kindness and warm hospitality. They welcomed me as a member of their family, and we enjoyed many holidays and other celebrations together. Among my many fond memories of Dan, three stand out: 1) He introduced me to basketball and helped foster my appreciation of the art and science of a good outside jump shot. 2) He also helped foster my appreciation of the art and science of a cool car - I´d never seen anyone treat an automobile with such pride and reverence until I saw Dan with his red Mercury Comet. 3) He honored me with the invitation to ride shotgun in his beloved Comet to go bowling at Northgate Lanes (I´m sure as a way to get in my sister´s good graces, but it was still pretty swell for a grade school kid like me). I´d be remiss if I didn´t highlight one more attribute I admire in Dan: He had a fantastic daughter! RIP Dan. My condolences and love to Melissa, Riley, Ross, and Tom.
