Gregory Feist Obituary

Gregory Lee Feist passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born on March 5, 1962, in Hays, KS to Aaron (dec. May 1st 2020) and Myrna Feist. Greg was a devoted father, husband, brother, and son. Survived by his mother, Myrna; sisters, Shari (Martin) and Lois; children Ryan, Scott (Dani), and Jacqueline, and loving wife, Shelley. His family was most important to him and they love him deeply.

Greg also had a lifelong love of learning, a trait both inherited and instilled from his own parents, Aaron and Myrna, both longtime secondary school teachers. His favorite topics were history, in particular American history, as well as religion, classical literature, and most recently learning Spanish.

As a young man, Greg hoped to become a math teacher and earned his Bachelor's of Secondary Education from Fort Hays State University while running track and field. Greg then went on to work 35 years as a software development manager for EDS/General Motors, and even though he didn't make teaching his career, he made it a lifestyle. As an adult, he coached little league baseball, volunteered with boy scouts, and taught his children everything from athletic pursuits to personal finance, to car maintenance, to canning green beans. A strict "Do-it-Yourselfer" and a natural "jack-of-all-trades", he prided himself on being an independent man and made sure to teach his wife and children how to follow in his footsteps.

Greg was a travel enthusiast with a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed taking his family on adventures. Some favorite memories include backpacking the Grand Canyon, lean-to camping in a Michigan blizzard, driving up the Big Sur, eating gelato in Rome, and touring the Tower of London.

Lastly, Greg liked food. If he had to make a food recommendation, the best foods are pulled pork, brisket, chocolate, soup, cake, and pie.

Funeral Mass in Greg's honor will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11:00AM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church (32340 Pierce Street, Beverly Hills, MI 48025). Visitation prior begins at 10:30AM at the church. Greg will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery (621 W Long Lake Road, Troy, MI 48098).

Memorial contributions in Greg's memory may be made out to Sarcoma Foundation of America or Gleaners Community Food Bank.
