Dan was known in the community for his musical talent. He played the trumpet for the Crowd Pleasers most of his music career. He worked for the Plain Dealer for over 25 years. He was a livelong resident of Wickliffe.
Dan was an avid golfer, browns fan, and all-around Cleveland sports fan. He did enjoy a good cigar with his favorite drink of Crown Royale.
Dan was easy-going, loved to laugh, with a positive spirit. He was fun natured and a great family man.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who will be dearly missed.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Denise Szanyi, his children, Daniel James (Rebecca) Szanyi, Deena (Dan) Nicely, and Steven (Kara) Szanyi, his grandchildren, Logan, Mia, Julia, Grant, Olive, Clayton, Graham, and Madilyn, his sister, Debi (Craig) Euse, his mother-in-law, Rosella Marion, sister-in-law, Rhonda Slusser, and many nieces and nephews,
He was preceded in death by father-in-law, James Marion,
His visitation is 4-7pm, Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Monreal Srnick Funerals & Cremations.
Services for Dan will immediately follow his visitation at 7 pm on Monday at Monreal Srnick Funeral & Cremations, 35400 Curtis Blvd, Eastlake, Ohio 44095.

Dear Denise, Dan Jr., Deena, Steven, and Family, We are Thinking of you and sending our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad and difficult time. May it comfort you to know that others care and share in your sorrow.
