Daniel Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Flint Funeral Home - Addison on Dec. 19, 2025.
Daniel E. Thompson, age 89, passed away on December 17, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on January 16, 1936, in Addison, New York, he was the son of the late Duane and Jane (Troy) Thompson. Daniel graduated from Addison High School and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a tank operator for two years. After returning home, he enrolled in the New York State Police Academy, graduating in 1962. He proudly served as a New York State Trooper for more than 27 years, retiring from the Painted Post barracks in 1989.
Daniel held a pilot's license and loved to fly. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles through the countryside and spending time browsing through stores-always with an eye out for a good sale. A generous gift giver, he especially loved the Christmas season and was well known for making his famous oyster stew. Daniel took great pride in his vegetable garden, particularly his tomatoes, which he enjoyed canning. Above all, he cherished his family and was a devoted and wonderful grandfather.
Daniel is survived by his children: Daniel (Tammy) Thompson of Big Flats, NY, Timothy (Cheryl) Thompson of Savona, NY, Lisa (Jason) Planck of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren: Scott Thompson, Aly (Tristan) Ponader, Torey Thompson, Carissa Thompson, Elizabeth (Nick) Ricco, Halie Calkins, Tara Thompson; many great grandchildren; sisters: MaryJane Gill, Patricia Watts; brother, John Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine's Church, Addison, NY. Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall St., Addison has been entrusted with Daniel's care.
