Daniel Alton Wakeman, age 73, of Orange, Connecticut passed away on June 17th 2024. He was born on February 16th, 1951 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Samuel and Wilma Wakeman. He had a strong relationship to Fairfield and was proud of his Fairfield-founding heritage as a part of the Wakeman and Burr families.
Some of Daniel's favorite things included the color red, music (especially country music), wrestling, baseball (specifically the Mets and Yankees), the Three Stooges, Walker Texas Ranger, Bonanza, Yogi Bear, and strawberries. Some of his favorite desserts included strawberries and he was a lover of angel food cake with strawberries on top, strawberry milkshakes, and strawberry ice cream. He would even pass time sitting in strawberry fields as a child.
He loved music and learned multiple instruments including the guitar, base, banjo, piano, and the bugle which he played as a Boy Scout when he was younger. He owned many guitars, but his favorite was a Martin Classical.
He was a lover of animals. He once adopted a cat from a local shelter and brought the cat, soon to be named Kipper, back home in a paper bag.
Daniel was a simple, thankful, appreciative man who, above all else, loved to spend time with family and friends. He loved his wife Virginia and daughter Caressa dearly. He had a heart for hurting and always wanted to make people laugh, even going so far as to impersonate Donald Duck in order to fill up the room with laughter. His humor and light will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his father Samuel Burr Wakeman Jr., his mother Wilma Janet Wakeman (formerly Christian), and his sister Margery Wakeman. He leaves behind his wife Virginia, his daughter Caressa, his brother Alvin Wakeman of Richmond, VA, his grandpuppy Myla Rei and countless other family members and friends.
Friends and family may visit and remember his life on Sunday, June 30th from 1-4pm at the Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT.
